Introduction
To encourage the youth to be interested in caring for the society, developing an active learning spirit and applying their learned knowledge to feedback the community, "Hong Kong Youth Technology and Creativity Design Competition" was held for five consecutive years from 2003 to 2008 and enthusiastically sponsored by various companies. With the positive feedback from the community, these events had given students the opportunities to apply what they learnt and realize their dreams and develop their concepts into products that benefit the elderly in their daily life. It also increases the mutual understanding between the elderly and the youth so that a harmonious society can be nurtured and sustained.
This year, three engineering institutes in conjunction with the four universities and one government department joined together to launch Engineering Week 2011. "Design for Elderly Competition" will be one of the major events that aims to care for needs of the society and provides an opportunity for the students to explore their potentials and interests. It also encourages more youth and young engineers to care about the physical and psychological changes and needs of the elderly. Through various visits and technical sharing, students can also broaden their general education and use their creative talent to design a series of caring products for the elderly.
The competition details and application form are hereby enclosed, and we would be most grateful if you could spread this massage to the students and encourage them to participate in the competition. Competition details will also be available on website: http://www.engineeringweek.hk starting from November 12, 2010.
